Top 5 ways to spend time at Kagoshima Airport

Kagoshima Airport has a lot of facilities that are surprisingly unknown and unique to Kagoshima and airport. If you want to kill a little time or your next flight is not ready yet, here are five recommended ways to spend your time at the airport.

Oyattosa natural hot spring foot baths

The first foot baths using natural hot spring waters to be built in a Japanese airport. The natural hot springs that well up from 1500m underground are warm and relaxing. "Oyattosa" means "good job"  in the Kagoshima dialect. Limted edition bath towels with original designs also sold here.

Sora Stage aviation exhibit

An aviation exhibition room where you can learn about planes and the history of Kagoshima Airport. There is also a full-scale model aircraft used in training cabin attendants of Japan Air Commuter, an airline based at Kagoshima Airport, which can be visited during non-training hours. The flight simulator that makes you feel like a real pilot is also popular (for a fee)!

Observation Deck

This lookout offers views of aircraft taking off and landing and beyond, the Kirishima mountains. On a clear day the contrast of blue sky and mountains is striking, with the steam rising from Kirishima Hot Spring Village in the distance. The views at sunrise and on snowy winter days are also recommended.

Rental Bike

Mizobecho, where the airport is located in Kirishima City, is a famed tea-growing area and a good starting point for a bike ride, with a popular produce market, ramen shops and cafes to be found. The Tourist Information Center at the airport has a range of recommended routes, so please ask the staff there for further details.

Nanohana Sky Lounge

A lounge offering access at 1,100 yen for adults and 550 yen for children. If you have an eligible credit card, you can use it free of charge if you have an air ticket for the same day. All seats are equipped with power sockets and USB ports. The seats are separated by partitions, so you can spend time in a quiet atmosphere with a sense of privacy. In addition to free snacks, there are plenty of free beverages on tap including coffee, mango juice, and yuzu drinks. We also recommend a free tasting of Kagoshima shochu liquor. The selection changes weekly.
