This karukan shop was established in 1854. Karukan is a simple, moist, mildly sweet confectionary with the distinctive flavor and smoothness of Japanese yam. Karukan manju buns with red bean paste inside and many other seasonal Japanese sweets are also available. Sister shops areAkashiya Honten (in Kinsei-cho), Akashiya Chuo (in front of Kagoshima Central Post Office) and Akashiya JR Kagoshima Chuo Station.
